Memorial Day brings back memories of being in high school. Not only did it signal the end of the school year for anxious students… each Memorial Day, the band would dress up in their crisp white, red, and black marching uniforms and parade down to Berge-Stafford park where a brief Memorial Day service was held. Several of the local veterans were always present in their uniforms or at least their hat, including my Grandfathers. Following the service, the local Legion post honored their comrades with a 21-gun salute. The event concluded with a trumpet’s haunting rendition of Taps being played from a distance – often played by my Dad or one of his start students.
Hats off to all our veterans!
