Well, last night was our Twins Breastfeeding class. Gotta love the double football hold! Not to mention, the myriad of products available these days:
- Breast Shells for Inverted Nipples
- Nipple Protectors
- Fancy Schmancy Nursing Covers
(what happened to a simple blanket?)
- Warm or Cool Breast Relief Packs
- Breast Pumps in Their Own Fashionable Bag
(this one came highly recommended by the hospital lactation consultant!)
- Hands Free Pumping Bra
(with all that multi-tasking, this is certainly essential, isn’t it?)
Breastfeeding, despite all the contraptions and get-ups used today, is a natural act that is obviously great for our babies. But, as our consultant pointed out last evening, there are also several benefits for mothers as well. Mothers who breastfeed:
- Generally lose their pregnancy weight faster (YIPPEE!!)
- Tend to store less fat on their thighs (WOOHOO!!)
- Have a greater reduction in hip size in the 2nd and 3rd months postpartum (COOL!!)
- Reduce their risk of breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers!
- Are calmer and more relaxed.
It’s also suggested that breastfeeding will save you about 8-10 hours a week (getting bottles ready, washing them, etc.) And, considering that raising twins is rumored to take a total of 125 hours out of a 168 hour week, bring it on!
Gotta run… pep talk time for my milk makers.
