Operation “Pacifier Be Gone” complete

Fairy Poppins and I did a great job of refraining from the pacifier plug on Thursday.  Thursday night, however, I caved.  I couldn’t take it and I knew Pete had to get up in the morning.  Listening to persistent screaming for 2 hours wasn’t in the cards.

Day 1 – Friday

We’ll call it “Cold Turkey Friday”.  The kids went to bed around 7:30pm.  James didn’t make a peep!  They both woke up at 10:00pm.  Since it was before midnight (my self-proclaimed cutoff for feedings), we did a quick feed, then off to bed again for the remainder of the night.  This time, James screamed for almost an hour and a half.  Elsa?  She slept right through it.  Didn’t bother her a bit.  I wish I had her abilities!  Thanks to our 1950’s built house with wood floors, there was no escape.  When the show finally ended, Sir James closed the curtain and slept peacefully through the rest of the night.

Day 2 – Saturday

After a fairly decent night’s sleep, we packed up the bus and all went to breakfast at a neighborhood cafe.  The kids were quite well-behaved, as pointed out by the “sweet as maple syrup” table of Grandma’s sitting next to us.  “Oh, please bring them back.  We’d love to see them again.  They were so quiet for you.”  Ok, Grandma… next time, they’re yours!  After that, we ran a few errands, headed out for some coffee (where Elsa dropped the biggest load of poo in her diaper), then headed home.

That night, the kids went to bed around 7pm.  No incidents, no noise.  At 11pm, they woke up.  We fed and watered, then off to bed once more.  No screaming!  James decided to hold off on that until 4am.  It was a much shorter show this time.  Probably 30 minutes max.

Day 3 – Sunday

The kids were all out of sorts.  Full moon perhaps?  After a very trying day, they went to bed at 7:30pm.  We didn’t hear from them again until 6:30am when Pete got up to get ready for work!  YEAH!!!!!!!!!  Knock on wood, knock on wood, knock on wood.

Lesson Learned:  A little pain and persistence (along with a good supply of ear plugs) pays off.
